But they never told me that accepting that knowledge was the next step. Solving the problem obviously is the last step, but I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. For now I must simply accept.

There are truths in my life about me, about the people around me, and about the world we live in, that I’ve recently come to realize. Truths that I wish were lies. Truths that I prayed were just smog, but when it rained, it poured.  Truths that snuck up on me. With no tag-backs. Truths that I feel helpless against, like gravity. A force that, even as a grown man, I cannot shake. I can only accept.

I don’t study religion. I’m no theologian. But I do have morals and I do have strong beliefs. I also have eyes. I also have a heart then tin-man would kill for. And often those three clash. When they do, I don’t want to believe it. It (whatever “It” may be) is foreign and makes me uncomfortable, so I stupidly choose to ignore it. Easiest thing to do. Oh, and I do it so well!

But now I accept. And I feel relief like Stevie Wonder. My relief comes from defeat because once I heard someone say “what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” I can now overcome my challenges with this new-found strength. I am strong, because I humbled myself. Until then, I seek guidance for my next step.
